Our Eco Journey
Our Eco Journey
When we first started out (whether it was right or not) being sustainable wasn't in the forefront of our minds, we were focused on creating beautiful products! A lot of our products featured foiling, plastic and weren't recyclable.
Our mindset changed a few years ago and we started to think how we could keep the party going in a more sustainable way.
We've been working hard to make our products more eco-friendly and for us to be more transparent.
Eco Labels Throughout The Website
You will see a few new features as you browse around our site, and one of the main things we've been working on is our eco messaging. This is reflected throughout the website using green eco friendly bubbles that are on listing pages and product pages. You can also now filter a category by what is eco.
Each eco product has a sustainability tab that will break down exactly why that product is eco. For example, a lot of our confetti balloons are biodegradable, some of our products are fully recyclable and other products are reusable. You'll be seeing more of these bubbles around our site once our new collections go live.
Packaging Journey
We’ve been evolving our packaging, but this is just the start! A few years ago there was a lot of plastic in our packaging. For SS20 we developed new eco friendly boxes that were cardboard envelopes and boxes with featured integrated eurohooks - but these still contained foil.
Due to using foil this meant that only 15% of our packaging was recyclable for Spring Summer 21. We decided to remove foilin from the majority of our packaging which increased our recyclable packaging to 95% in Spring Summer 22 and then 98% for 2023.
Here’s an overview of our journey so far...
Packaging Labels
The majority of our previous ranges had foiled packaging. Although it looked lovely, it meant our packaging wasn’t fully recyclable
From Spring Summer 2022, we’re making our messaging on packaging super clear so our customers know exactly what is and isn’t recyclable. We’re making a conscious effort to make sure all of our products and packaging are more environmentally friendly.
The bubbles you will see around the website will also feature on the packaging too so everything is aligned.
Then the reverse of our packaging shows a breakdown of exactly how to recycle each of the components.
Tableware and Cutlery
We're exploring new ways to make our products more eco friendly. We're moving away from using plastic lamination and are now using a water based finish. Any cups with plastic lamination are clearly labelled with the EU plastic regulation label.
Our target is to move all cups and plates to be 100% plastic free!
We stopped importing plastic straws before they were banned and have always focused on releasing paper straws. More recently we have started selling metal straws. We also first sold wooden tableware back in 2015, long before any plastic bans!
Changes Through all Areas
We're making changes in all areas of our process, including our warehouse! All orders packed in our warehouse now use brown paper instead of bubble wrap and our plastic mailer bags are now made from 50% recycled plastics.
We want to keep the party going, as well as protect the planet!
This is just the start of our eco journey... We have loads more we want to achieve and we are looking forward to the future!
